The Produce & Crafts Section is one of the most popular and diverse areas of the Ryedale Show, celebrating traditional countryside skills, homegrown produce, baking, crafts, art and photography.

Housed within the Produce Marquee, the section attracts exhibitors of all ages and abilities, from experienced competitors to those entering for the first time. With over 200 classes covering everything from homemade jam and vegetables to handcrafted items and fine art, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Whether you're a keen gardener, baker, photographer, artist or craft enthusiast, the Produce & Crafts Section offers a chance to showcase your talents and compete for a range of trophies and prizes.

πŸ“… Key Information for Exhibitors

Entry fee: Β£1 per exhibit. Exhibits may be delivered between 3pm and 6pm on the Monday before the show. All exhibits must be in place by 9:00am on Show Day

Judging begins at 9:30am. The marquee reopens to visitors at 12 noon. Trophy presentations take place from 4:00pm. One exhibitor admission ticket is provided for entries totalling Β£10 or more. Exhibitors Parking is available behind the tent, however vehicles in this area must be parked by 8.30am and remain until 4.30pm. Other parking is available in thepublic car park for those arriving or departing at other times.

πŸͺ΅ Shepherd's Crooks & Walking Sticks

A long-standing favourite of the show, the Shepherd's Crook section celebrates the craftsmanship and tradition of stick making. Classes include fancy and plain crooks, thumbsticks, walking sticks and novice classes, showcasing both decorative and practical designs.

🍯 Produce

The produce section highlights the very best home-produced goods from across the region.

Classes include:

Hen and bantam eggs; Jams, jellies and marmalades; Lemon curd; Chutneys and relishes; Local honey; Cordials, fruit liqueurs and sloe gin; Pickled beetroot.

Many entries are judged not only on taste and quality but also on presentation, making this a colourful and fascinating display.

🍰 Cooking & Baking

From traditional family recipes to beautifully presented bakes, the cooking section always attracts strong competition.

Classes include:

Homemade breads and sourdough; Loaf cakes and traybakes; Victoria sandwich and sponge cakes; Bakewell tart; Brownies, flapjacks and muffins; Scones and biscuits; Savoury pastries and flans. There are even special classes exclusively for male exhibitors, adding a little friendly rivalry to the competition!

The horticulture section showcases the pride and skill of local growers, with classes covering vegetables, fruit and allotment produce.

Visitors can admire:

Potatoes, onions and garlic; Beans, peas and runner beans; Courgettes, cabbages and cauliflowers; Tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers; Rhubarb and salad crops; Soft fruits including gooseberries, raspberries and currants; Novelty classes such as The Longest Runner Bean and Most Wonky Vegetable are always popular with exhibitors and visitors alike!

🌸 Flowers & Plants

Dahlias and roses; Sweet peas and pansies; Herbaceous flowers and annuals; Flower arrangements and floral art; Pot plants and hanging baskets; Cacti, succulents and fuchsias; Sunflowers and edible plants.

From elegant buttonholes to elaborate centrepieces, the section demonstrates the artistry and skill of local gardeners and floral enthusiasts.

🧢 Handicrafts

The handicraft section celebrates traditional and contemporary craft skills, with classes covering knitting, crochet, sewing, embroidery and creative design.

Popular classes include:

Knitted garments and babywear; Crochet accessories and soft toys; Patchwork and quilting; Needlework and embroidery; Jewellery making; Felt work; Handmade wooden, clay and metal items; Upcycled creations.

The variety and quality of exhibits make this one of the most admired sections within the marquee.

🎨 Art

Artists are invited to submit work in a variety of media, including:

Watercolour; Acrylic; Pencil; Pastel; Printmaking; Mixed media.

The popular "Inspired by Ryedale" class encourages artists to capture the character, landscape and spirit of the local area.
